Fault movement, landslide, mining subsidence and tunnel excavation are the main reasons for buried pipeline damage. The main problem of lifeline engineering is to avoid the damage of buried pipelines caused by geological disasters. In this paper, the state-of-the-art of numerical study on the mechanical properties of buried pipelines under the geological disaster is summarized, including the typical geological disaster of buried pipeline, and the finite element model between buried pipeline and surrounding soil.In the meantime, future research on the mechanical response of the buried pipeline under geological disasters is proposed aiming at the existing problem, including the characteristics of buried pipeline-permafrost interaction, mechanics behaviors of pipeline under the coupling effects of geological disaster and strain-based design criteria of the pipeline.
