Discussion on the Efficacy of Tonsil Branding Treatment and Analysis and Countermeasures of Related Adverse Events
Objective To explore the efficacy of Chinese medicine branding in the treatment of chronic tonsillitis,to analyze the related adverse events and to discuss the countermeasures in order to further improve its safety.Methods From January 2018 to December 2022,160 patients with chronic tonsillitis admitted to the Department of Otorhinolar-yngology of Zhongshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated to Guangzhou University of Chinese Medi-cine were randomly selected as the research object and randomLy divided into two groups according to the random number table method.105 patients in the treatment group were treated with tonsillitis cauterization,and 55 patients in the control group were treated with self-made Huatan Sanjie Quyu Liyan Decoction for 2 weeks.The degree of tonsil enlargement,clinical symptom score,sign score and the average number of tonsillar acute inflammation attacks per month were observed before and after treatment.The number of patients who finally received tonsillectomy in the two groups was counted.Adverse events were observed and recorded.Results In the treatment group,the cure rate was 88.57%,and the total effective rate was 98.10%.In the control group,after 2 weeks of oral administration of tradi-tional Chinese medicine,the recovery rate was 45.45%and the total effective rate was 76.36%.There was statistically significant difference in clinical efficacy between the two groups(χ2=41.711,P<0.05).After treatment,the total scores of symptoms and signs in the treatment group were lower than those before treatment and those in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.001).After treatment,the average number of tonsillar acute inflammation attacks per month in the treatment group was significantly lower than that before treatment and less than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(both P<0.001).One patient in the treatment group finally received tonsillectomy.In the control group,6 cases received tonsillectomy,and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group,the difference was statistically significant(χ2=4.995,P<0.05).Conclusion The efficacy of Chinese medicine branding treatment for chronic tonsillitis is remarkable.Continuous accumulation of ex-perience,sufficient attention to the adverse events related to tonsil branding and active countermeasures can further improve the safety of treatment.
