Effect of Percutaneous Vertebroplasty for Thoracolumbar Spine Fractures in Elderly Patients on the Degree of Surgical Trauma and Spinal Function of Patients
Objective To investigate the effects of percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP)on surgical trauma and spinal function in the treatment of thoracolumbar spine fractures in elderly patients. Methods A total of 84 elderly patients with thoracolumbar fracture admitted to the Traumatology Department of Dongtai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medi-cine from February 2022 to February 2023 were conveniently selected as the research objects. The patients were di-vided into two groups with 42 cases each by random number generator. The incision group was treated with open re-duction and internal fixation. The observation group was treated with PVP operation. The degree of surgical trauma(amount of blood loss, length of incision, length of hospital stay),spinal function(anterior vertebral margin height,kip-hotic Cobb Angle),oswestry dability index(ODI).Numeric Rating Scale(NRS),BarthelIndex(BI),and WHO Quality of Life(WHOQOL)were compared between the two groups. Results The blood loss, incision length and hospital stay in the observation group were(52.11±13.83)mL,(4.58±1.26)cm and(10.59±2.48)d,respectively.The corresponding indexes in the incision group were(116.79±15.98)mL,(11.86±2.95)cm and(13.75±2.64)d,respectively.The index level of observation group were better than those of incision group, and the differences were statically significant(t= 19.835,14.708,5.654,all P<0.05).Before operation, there were no significant differences in vertebral anterior margin height and kyphotic Cobb Angle between the two groups(both P>0.05).After operation, the anterior vertebral margin height increased and the kyphotic Cobb Angle decreased between the two groups, and the differences were not stati-cally significant(both P>0.05).The ODI,NRS,BI,and WHOQOL scores of the observation group were better than those of the incision group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusion PVP procedure showed satisfactory results in the treatment of elderly patients with thoracolumbar spine fracture, which can control the surgical trauma, promote the recovery of spinal function, and help to reduce the postoperative spinal dysfunction and pain level, which can enable the patients to obtain a more comprehensive independent living ability and a higher qual-ity of life.
