Comparison of the Efficacy of Low-temperature Plasma Tonsillectomy and Partial Tonsillectomy in the Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome in Children
Objective To explore the effect of low temperature plasma tonsillectomy and partial tonsillectomy on ob-structive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS)in children. Methods The clinical data of 196 children with OSAS admitted to the Department of Otorhinolaryngology in Fujian Maternal and Child Health Hospital from March to September 2023 were retrospectively selected and grouped according to the surgical methods. There were 104 cases in the control group(total tonsillectomy)and 92 cases in the observation group(partial tonsillectomy). The operation time,intraopera-tive blood loss, postoperative sleep improvement, postoperative pain and postoperative complication rate were com-pared between the two groups. Results The operation time of the observation group was shorter than that of the control group, and the amount of bleeding was less than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically signifi-cant(both P<0.05).After operation, the frequency of snoring and suffocation decreased in both groups, but there was no significant difference between the two groups(both P>0.05).The pain scores of the observation group at 1 day and 3 days after operation were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(both P<0.05).The incidence of postoperative bleeding and fever in the observation group were 0 and 3.3%,respectively,which were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(χ2=4.616,5.558,both P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of upper respiratory tract infection be-tween the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion For children with OSAS caused by tonsil and adenoid hypertrophy,com-pared with total tonsillectomy, there was no statistically significant difference in the postoperative effect of low-temperature plasma-assisted partial tonsillectomy, and it had the advantages of shorter operation time, less blood loss and milder postoperative pain symptoms.
