Progress in Clinical Research on Retinal Imaging in Vascular White Mat-ter Lesions
The incidence of vascular white matter lesions(WMLs)is high in the elderly population, which often causes vascular cognitive impairment and dementia.Retinal blood vessels are similar to brain small blood vessels in embryological origin and anatomical structure, and the retinal nerve fiber layer is the extended white matter of the brain. In recent years,a growing number of studies have substantiated that WMLs can cause retinal changes. This ar-ticle reviewed the existing research results and summarizes the current clinical research status of retinal imaging in pa-tients with WMLs,with a view to guiding clinical screening and prevention.
