Application Effect of Glimepiride and Metformin in Elderly Patients with Diabetes Mellitus and Its Impact on FPG,2 hPG and HbA1c Levels
Objective To investigate the effect of glimepiride plus metformin on fasting plasma glucose(FPG),2-hour postprandial plasma glucose(2 hPG)and glycosylated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)in elderly patients with diabetes melli-tus.Methods A total of 100 elderly patients diagnosed with diabetes admitted to Yongchun County Hospital of Quan-zhou City in Fujian Province from February 2021 to February 2024 were simply and randomly selected as the research objects, according to different medication regimens, they were divided into control group and observation group, with 50 cases in each group. The control group was treated with metformin alone, and the observation group was treated with glimepiride+metformin. The efficacy, glycolipid index, islet function and safety of the two groups were com-pared.Results The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 96.00%(48/50),which was higher than 82.00%(41/50)in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(χ2=5.005,P=0.025).After treatment, levels of FPG,2 hPG,HbA1c and triglyceride in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).After treatment, the fasting insulin and insulin se-cretion index in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statisti-cally significant(all P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse drug reactions between patients in two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion the application of glimepiride+metformin in elderly patients with diabe-tes can significantly improve the curative effect, more effectively improve the patients'glucose and lipid indicators and islet function, and ensure the safety of medication.
