International Standardization Progress of ESG Ecology and Information Disclosure
In recent years,Environmental,Social,and Governance(ESG)factors have become increasingly significant in investment decision-making.ESG ratings have emerged as a crucial benchmark for investors seeking sustainable and ethical investment opportunities.As of 2023,there are over 600 ESG rating agencies globally,and 69 stock exchanges have issued guidance documents.The Global Reporting Initiative(GRI)is the most widely cited framework,referenced by approximately 96%of these exchanges,followed by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board(SASB)at about 78%and the International Integrated Reporting Council(IIRC)at around 76%.In 2023,BNP Paribas conducted a field survey with 420 investors,revealing that 71%believe"inconsistent and incomplete"data is the biggest obstacle to ESG investing.This paper discusses the ESG ecosystem and explores the collaborative relationships between different frameworks and standard-setters toward international standardization.It also discusses the intrinsic connection between the ISO international certification system and sustainable development,emphasizing the advantages of ISO standards in the ESG field,as ISO standards are globally recognized certifications that allow companies to demonstrate their commitments and achievements in ESG.This is crucial for attracting investors,gaining consumer trust,and establishing long-term partnerships.The article analyzes the progress and challenges of ISO's work in ESG disclosure and identifies opportunities.It concludes with recommendations for ISO's development in the ESG disclosure field,providing valuable insights for the standardization of ESG disclosure practices in China.
