The Pollution Situation and Risk Assessment of Toxic Organic Compounds in Sediments from Pearl River Delta
The organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs),andpolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)in surface sediments from rivers and estuary of Pearl River Delta were analyzed quantitatively, based on US EPA 8000 series methods and under quality assurance and quality control(QA/QC).The pollution situation of sediments from Pearl River Delta was assessed by comparisons to the concentration ranges of toxic organic compounds found in surface sediments over the world. In addition, the comparisons of the concentrations of a number of organic compounds to the biologic threshold from abroad indicated that the sediments from Guangzhou channel and Macao estuary were most likely to pose biological impairment.
