The Practical Model of Biodiversity Conservation in China:A Study Based on Typical Biodiversity Cases
Typical cases of biodiversity are important practices for demonstrating and publicizing the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation.A comprehensive exploration of typical conservation modes in China is essential for further improving biodiversity conservation. This paper systematically reviews 227 biodiversity conservation cases in the Chinese mainland, and identifies five types of biodiversity conservation practical models based on participating subjects, main practices, case characteristics, conservation effectiveness and influence and so on.The results show that:(1)Among them, the goal-leading model driven by species and habitat conservation was the most common, accounting for 43.2%,indicating that the establishment of a system of nature reserves is the most effective way to protect ecosystems and species.(2)Cases of the policy-driven model with the system taking the lead account for 4.4%,but it is still one of the most powerful measures for promoting biodiversity conservation in China.(3)The fundamental guarantee model for strengthening capacity building accounts for 20.3%.It mainly includes investigation and assessment, law enforcement supervision, etc. Some cases use the latest technologies, such as AI,to conduct investigations.(4)The industry-driven model for sustainable utilization, which accounts for 14.1%of cases, promotes the rational utilization of biological resources and supports regional sustainable development.(5)The social governance model with universal participation represents 18.1%of the cases. This model effectively mobilizes all sectors of society to engage in biodiversity conservation through various channels, therefore raising awareness across the entire community.Based on those analysis results, the paper suggests several next steps:enhancing both in situ and relocation conservation systems, accelerating the development of policies and institutional frameworks, improving technological and intelligence capabilities for investigation and monitoring, exploring diversified models for the transformation of ecological product values, and broadening public participation through multiple channels. These measures will help accelerate the implementation of local biodiversity conservation practices in China.
