Avian Diversity and Habitat Management Strategies for Birds in Beijing's Wenyuhe Park
Beijing Wenyuhe Park is an urban green space located along the Wenyu River-North Canal ecological corridor,in the second green belt of Beijing.Understanding its avian diversity characteristics and optimizing the management of its habitat quality are of great significance for maintaining regional biodiversity.Based on the avian surveys conducted from January 2022 to December 2023,this study characterized the bird community structure in the park and classified different avian feeding groups.The temporal and spatial patterns of bird diversity,as well as diversity hotspots in different seasons,were analyzed.Additionally,the habitat types in the study area were categorized based on remote sensing interpretation and vegetation surveys,and specific optimization strategies were proposed for each habitat type.The results show that:(1)A total of 174 bird species were recorded in Beijing Wenyuhe Park,belonging to 19 orders and 51 families,including 4 species under national Grade Ⅰ protection and 21 species under national Grade Ⅱ protection.(2)The α diversity of birds in Beijing Wenyuhe Park was highest in spring,with the main channel of the Wenyu River showing the highest bird abundance and diversity index.(3)Beijing Wenyuhe Park can be divided into three habitat types:Type Ⅰ(riparian wetland with fringing close forest),Type Ⅱ(dense forest)and Type Ⅲ(riparian wetland with open forest).Habitat optimization strategies can be proposed according to the differences in characteristics of bird communities across different habitats types.The following recommendations are made:For type Ⅰhabitat,improve the quality of terrestrial bird habitats while maintaining wetland habitats.For type Ⅱ habitat,increase the planting density of evergreen tree species,small trees,feeding shrubs and native herbs;reduce disturbances from ground cover harvesting and litter removal;and enhance micro-landscape heterogeneity.For type Ⅲ habitat,plant more bird-feeding trees with fast-growing characteristic and moderately improve the height,coverage and richness of the tree and shrub layer.
