Basin water environmental governance has recently gained attention as one of the most important ecological and environmental governance challenges in China.Currently,CiteSpace is utilized in a variety of fields for the visual analyzing of literature studies,but it is less frequently employed for themes pertaining to the water environment.In this study,analyzing the relevant literature of the discipline is conducive to better grasping the process and current trends of basin water environmental governance.The study conducted a visual knowledge map analysis based on 722 effective documents of"basin water environmental governance"from 1995 to 2022 with the aid of CiteSpace software,which makes it easier to understand how basin water environmental governance research has developed over time.The results show that the volume of basin water environmental governance has demonstrated a upward exponential growth,and its development can be divided into three stages:the precursor period,fluctuating development period and boom period;the research force in this field has taken shape but is relatively dispersed,mostly early cooperation;the research features mainly include the analysis of the current situation of basin water environment as a theoretical starting point,the research of institutional mechanism and pollution control which constitute the main knowledge in the field,and the research of future and the research of sustainable development with the goal of"water ecological health".With the continuous improvement of water quality,the basin water environmental governance system and governance capacity face the challenge of new development needs,ecological restoration,water ecological environmental protection and other directions will become crucial components of river basin water environment governance.
