Study on adsorption of methyl orange in printing and dyeing wastewater by spent bleaching earth carbon
In this study, spent bleaching earth carbon(SBE@C)was prepared by anoxic high-temperature pyrolysis of spent bleaching earth(SBE),which is a by-product of oil refining industry.SBE@C could remove methyl orange from printing and dyeing wastewater. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of methyl orange on 1,2 and 3 g/L SBE@C were 12.53,7.14 and 5.12 mg/g at 180 min, respectively. The adsorption kinetics of methyl orange on SBE@C was more in accordance with pseudo-second order kinetic model, and the adsorption isotherm fitted the Freundlich model better.Furthermore, the adsorption performance of SBE@C for complex dyes(methyl orange-eosin Y-alizarin red)was also investigated. The effect of ionic strength and coexisting anions on the adsorption of SBE@C were studied. The results indicated that the inhibitory effect of coexisting Cl-on the adsorption of SBE@C increased with the increase of ionic strength.CO2-3,Cl-,PO3-4 and SO2-4 all showed inhibitory effect on the adsorption of SBE@C.
