Characterization of spatial and temporal distribution of arsenic concentration in groundwater in China and its health risk assessment
The impacts of groundwater arsenic contamination on the environment and human health have attracted widespread attention. In this study,we comprehensively applied geographic information system(GIS)technology and health risk assessment methods to analysis relevant literature from 1980 to 2022,and explored the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of arsenic concentration in groundwater in China,as well as its potential risk to health. The results show that the temporal trend of groundwater arsenic concentration in China is weak, but the spatial distribution shows strong variability, especially in the local areas of North,Northeast and Central China where higher groundwater arsenic concentrations are detected. However, the existing groundwater arsenic concentration detection data in most areas of China are lower than the World Health Organization(WHO)drinking water standards.A health risk assessment based on the existing groundwater arsenic concentration data found that the health risk caused by groundwater arsenic contamination in different populations has been decreasing year by year, and is now generally within an acceptable range, but a higher health risk still exists in some areas of northern China.
