Application of the induction electromagnetic method in a case of illegal solid waste landfill in environmental damage identification and assessment
The incidents of illegal solid waste landfill in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA)are frequent and diverse. For such cases with complex identification objects and many uncertain factors,a multi-frequency electromagnetic instrument(GEM-2)was used to detect a plot of illegal solid waste landfill in the GBA.The resistivity characteristics of the underground materials from the surface to a specific depth were obtained by simultaneously transmitting four frequencies of electromagnetic waves,so as to quickly delineate the location and area of solid waste landfill, and the drilling survey method was used for verification at the same time. The results showed that the landfill range of solid waste was estimated to be 18 900 m2 by induction electromagnetic method,of which the landfill areas of Area A and Area B were 8 760 m2 and 10 140 m2 respectively.Through on-site drilling,it was confirmed that three types of solid waste such as sewsage sludge, household waste and slag were mixed landfill in this plot. The landfill thickness ranged from 0.5~5.6 m,and the distribution area was approximately 24 460 m2,and the total volume of solid waste was 65 330 m3.The test result of induction electromagnetic method in Area B was similar to that of drilling method. It showed that the induction electromagnetic method has considerable application value in identification and assessment of environmental damage, and its combination with the drilling methods will improve the efficiency and the accuracy of identification and assessment, and provide technical reference for identification and assessment of illegal solid waste landfill cases in the future.
