Applications of stable isotope techniques in the study of fog water in terrestrial ecosystems
Fog water is an important water resource and a significant source of moisture input in terrestrial ecosystems.Over the past few decades, the development of stable isotope technology has enhanced our understanding of the hydrological characteristics and ecological functions of fog water. This study reviews the main collection methods of fog water in current ecological hydrological research and focuses on the application of stable isotope technology in fog water research in ecosystems. It mainly includes research progress in tracing the source of fog water, determining the type of fog water, assessing the replenishment of groundwater by fog water, and revealing the absorption of fog water by plants. Finally,it looks forward to the future frontiers of fog water research using stable isotope technology, from the perspective of new technologies that affect the efficiency of fog water collection and the current state and gaps in fog water researches.
