An example of artificial wetland engineering for non-point source pollution control in the Chaohu-Zhao River Basin
To effectively manage the water environment of the Pei River in the Chaohu-Zhao River Basin and purify the incoming water from the upstream of the Pei River and the drainage canal of the Peigang community to provide clean water supply to the downstream. This study utilizes the technology of multiple ponds forming a chain of living water to construct surface flow artificial wetlands.Through the rational combination of aquatic plants in the wetlands, appropriate increase in the number of aquatic plants, and measures such as propagation and release,it establishes a diverse and rich aquatic ecosystem, achieving sustainable benefits of wetlands. The designed water capacity of the wetland is 2 400 m3/d.According to the water quality monitoring data after operation, the reduction efficiency of COD,NH3-N and TP in wetland is 41.88%,29.51%and 38.06%,respectively.This study comprehensively considers environmental, economic, social, and ecological benefits, which are of significant importance for the ecological environment protection of the Pei River Basin and provides valuable reference for the design of similar wetlands.
