The application of ground-penetrating radar(GPR)in airport pavement was analyzed in this paper.GPR is an electromagnetic wave technology that is widely used in airport pavement inspection and evaluation.Using this technology,the specific condition of the airport runway can be obtained.Potential problems such as cracks,holes,corrosion,and settlement can be identified,and their depth and location can be determined.Compared to traditional detection methods,GPR can accurately and quickly identify potential problems,greatly reducing down-time and maintenance costs and making it safer.Several key applications of GPR on airport pavement were dis-cussed in detail.Firstly,pavement thickness can accurately be measured and a profile of the pavement structure can be provided.Secondly,pavement distress can detected,pavement defects such as voids,cracks,and settle-ment,providing important information for pavement maintenance and repair.In addition,GPR can also be used to detect underground pipelines and facilities,assisting pipeline layout and conflict detection during planning and con-struction processes.Finally,the application of GPR on airport pavement was summarized and its prospects were discussed.GPR technology has many advantages in airport pavement inspection,such as high efficiency,non-de-structiveness,and comprehensiveness.However,there are still some challenges to overcome such as the complexity of data interpretation and processing and the consideration of equipment cost.Future research can further focus on the application of GPR technology on airport pavement and solve relative technical and practical problems.
