The signals in different pulse groups of a pulse-group frequency agile radar are not coherent, and the radar's SNR fluctuates dramatically, which bring great difficulty to target detection. In this paper,a target detection method is proposed for pulse-group frequency agile radar.First, the optimal number of frequency agile pulse groups and the num-ber of pulses within each pulse group are determined according to a fast fluctuating signal accumulation loss curve.Sec-ondly,MTD filters are designed to match the change in clutter spectrum widths of different pulse groups. Then, pulse compression and MTD processing are performed for each pulse group. Finally, the data of the channels with the same ve-locity in each pulse group is accumulated according to the mapping relationship between Doppler domain and velocity do-main for subsequent target detection. The simulation results show that the proposed method has some advantages because it can improve radar detection performance while keeping clutter suppression capability.
