False targets formed by secondary-trip echoes negatively affected radar detection of targets of interest. In this paper,a phase modulation method was used to modulate the phase of the radar transmitted pulse signals. Then, the phase of the echo signals was corrected. Therefore, there were residual differences between phase of the secondary-trip echoes and corrected phase. The energy of the secondary-trip echoes was evenly distributed in the Doppler dimension by controlling the phase residual differences, thereby reducing the detection probability of the secondary-trip echoes. The method was also suitable for multiple-trip echoes. It had certain engineering application value.
