Innovation and Development of Fast Reactors in China
The fast reactor focuses on the efficient utilization of uranium resources and the minimization of radioactive waste.It represents an advanced stage of nuclear energy development,hence three of the six reactor types listed in the fourth-generation nuclear power systems are fast reactors worldwide.The mass construction of fast reactors is the key to building a new energy system in the future and can ensure the national energy security.The construction of Xiapu fast reactor demonstrates that China has fully mastered the design,construction,and operation of large sodium-cooled fast reactors.The overall technology has reached the world's advanced level,marking a solid step forward in the second phase of China's three-step nuclear power development strategy:thermal reactors,fast reactors,and fusion reactors.It also lays a foundation for the commercialized fast reactors in the future.
