The variation of affiliation in breeding unit of Qinling golden snub-nosed monkey during the resident male takeover
The resident male takeover is an important part of the succession of reproductive rights, and is a key strategy for individual reproduction in snub-nosed golden monkeys, playing a great role in the population reproduction and survival. The takeover of mating rights of the Qinling snub-nosed monkey bands in Yuhuangmiao,Zhouzhi National Nature Reserve,Shaanxi, mainly occur during the breeding season from October to December each year. The researchers observed two events of resident male takeovers, one of which occurred from October 25-30,2023 and documented.During the process of resident male takeover, the allogrooming and mating frequency between the former resident male and female members of the band significantly decreased. After takeover, the frequency of allogrooming and mating between the new resident male and female members of the band gradually increased, showing a significantly decreased social rank.
