This paper takes a transmission line as an example to explore the application effect of line type lightning arrester in improving the lightning resistance level of transmission line.This paper first introduces the common measures to reduce the lightning accident of transmission lines,such as setting up double lightning arrester,installing pre-discharge lightning arrester,installing controlled discharge lightning arrester and installing line lightning arrester.Then the working principle and operating conditions of the line arrester are emphasized.In the practical application,in the thunderstorm area,the transmission line tower with high height and high Angle can be prioritized to install the line lightning arrester,and improve the line lightning protection level on the basis of cost saving.
