Preliminary Study on the Surface Crystallization Mechanism of Tian Tie Porcelain Glaze
Tian Tie porcelain is a type of ceramic made that has been developed through innovative research based on the traditional Longquan celadon ceramic technique. What makes it unique is the addition of an appropriate amount of Tian Tie(or meteorite iron)powder into the glaze. After systematic characterization and analysis of different porcelain glaze formulations,it was discovered that the addition of varying amounts of meteoric iron powder resulted in the formation of distinctive α-Fe2O3、ε-Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 iron oxide crystallization in the glaze.Different crystal forms such as feather-like,snowflake-like,and granular structures were observed. This indicates that the concentration of iron oxide and the morphology of its crystallization play a decisive role in shaping the surface effects of the Tian Tie porcelain. This conclusion provides important scientific basis for optimizing the production process of Tian Tie porcelain.
