Polarization Beam Splitter Switch Based on Phase Change Materials
Optical switches are one of the important components used in reconfigurable optical transmission networks in photonic integrated circuits.Optical switches with rich functions and excellent performance have always been an important research direction. This paper proposes a polarizing beam splitter(PBS)optical switch based on phase change material(PCM).The device is composed of two parallel curved silicon waveguides.PCM is embedded in one of the silicon waveguides, which can realize the operation when PCM is in the amorphous state. When separating the input TE0 and TM0.In the crystalline state, incident light passes through the silicon waveguide with lower loss. The switch has a compact size of only 14*4 μm and a coupling length of only 7.1 µm.In the amorphous state, the ER of TM and TE polarization is as high as 19.9 dB and 19.4 dB,respectively, and the IL is as low as 0.2 and 0.1 dB,respectively. In the crystal state,TM0 and TE0 pass directly through the Thru port. The insertion losses of TM0 and TE0 are 0.6 dB and 0.2 dB respectively.
