Effects of Chinese herbs on organismal immunity of Ctenopharyngodon idellus
In order to study the effects of Chinese herbs on the immunity of Ctenopharyngodon idella and to deter-mine the optimum level of Chinese herbs in Ctenopharyngodon idella feed.In this study,120 healthy grass carp weighing about 100 g were selected and divided into four treatments with three replicates of 10 fish each according to a one-way experimental design.Ctenopharyngodon idella in each group were fed with diets containing 0%(con-trol),1%,2%and 4%of Chinese herbs for 8 weeks. At the end of the experiment, four Ctenopharyngodon idella from each replicate group were selected for blood collection and blood immunity indexes were tested. The results showed that the addition of 2%of the herbs to the Ctenopharyngodon idella feed increased the serum lysozyme activ-ity(P<0.05);the addition of 1%and 2%of the herbs significantly increased the serum superoxide dismutase ac-tivity(P<0.05),and significantly reduced the malondialdehyde level(P<0.05).The study showed that the addi-tion of appropriate amount of Chinese herbs to Ctenopharyngodon idella feed can improve the non-specific immunity of the organism, and the optimum level of addition of Chinese herbs was determined to be 2%by combining the cost and data of various indexes.
