Effect of temperature on hatching of fertilized eggs of Cuora flavomarginata
In order to investigate the effect of temperature on the hatching of Cuora flavomarginata,84 eggs of uni-form size with sunken yolks and spermatophores were selected and randomly divided into 4 groups of 21 eggs each. They were divided into 3 parallels of 7 each.Turtle eggs from each parallel group were incubated in the same incu-bator,and each of the four groups was incubated at four temperature gradients. The incubation temperature was(24±0.5)℃ for treatment group 1,(26±0.5)℃ for treatment group 2,(28±0.5)℃ for treatment group 3,and(30±0.5)℃ for treatment group 4.At the end of incubation, hatching rate was calculated and body weights were weighed. The results showed that the incubation temperature of(28±0.5)℃ group had the highest hatching rate of 95.24%,followed by(30±0.5)℃ group with 85.71%,and the incubation temperature of(24±0.5)℃group had the lowest hatching rate of 28.57%.By weighing the body mass of hatchlings,it was found that the incubation temperature had a significant effect on the body mass of hatchlings, and the body mass of hatchlings in the treat-ment 3 group at(28±0.5)℃ was the heaviest, which was significantly higher than that in the treatment 1 group at(24±0.5)℃ and the treatment 2 group at(26±0.5)℃(P<0.05),but the difference was not significant(P>0.05)when compared with that in the treatment 4 group at(30±0.5)℃.The body mass of hatchling turtles after 30 weeks of hatching was the highest in the treatment 3 group at(28±0.5)℃,with a non-significant difference compared to the treatment 4 group at(30±0.5)℃(P>0.05),significantly higher than that of the treatment 2 group at(26±0.5)℃(P<0.05),and highly significantly higher than that of the treatment 1 group at(24± 0.5)℃(P<0.01).The rate of body mass gain from 8 weeks to 30 weeks was significantly higher(P<0.05)than that of the(28±0.5)℃ treatment 1 group and(26±0.5)℃ treatment 2 group(P<0.05)due to the effect of incu-bation temperature, which resulted in the initial lighter hatching weight of the(24±0.5)℃ and(26±0.5)℃ treat-ment 2 groups. However,in terms of hatching rate of hatchlings and body mass at 8 and 30 weeks of hatching, the best hatching results were obtained by hatching Cuora flavomarginata in the treatment 3 group at(28±0.5)℃.
