Effects of different levels of mugwort leaf powder on growth performance of Ctenopharyngodon idella
The experiment was conducted to study the effects of different levels of mugwort(Artemisia argyi)leaf powder on the growth performance of grass carp(Ctenopharyngodon idella),and to determine the optimal level of mugwort leaf powder required for the growth of grass carp.A total of 500 healthy grass carp with similar body weight were divided into 4 treatment groups with 5 replicates per group and 25 grass carp per replicate according to the principle of single-factor experimental design.Grass carp in each group were fed experimental diets containing 0%(blank control group),2%,4%and 8%mugwort leaf powder, respectively. After feeding for 10 weeks, the growth performance indexes such as body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate, survival rate and feed coef-ficient of grass carp in each group were detected. The results showed that compared with the control group, feeding 4%and 8%mugwort leaf powder could significantly increase the final weight, specific growth rate and weight gain rate of grass carp(P<0.05).But feeding 4%and 8%mugwort leaf powder could significantly reduce the feed co-efficient of grass carp(P<0.05).The survival rate,visceral-body ratio and hepato-body ratio of grass carp were not significantly affected by feeding mugwort leaf powder(P>0.05).The results showed that feeding proper amount of mugwort leaf powder could significantly improve the growth performance of grass carp.Considering the comprehensive index data and breeding cost, adding 4%mugwort leaf powder to grass carp culture had the best effect on its growth performance.
