Effects of different dietary fat sources on the growth of Monopterus albus
The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of different dietary fat sources on the growth per-formance of Monopterus albus, and to determine the most suitable dietary fat sources for the production of Monopter-us albus.A total of 500 healthy eel with a body weight of about 20 g were divided into 5 treatment groups with 5 replicates per group and 20 eel per replicate according to a single-factor design. The eels in each group were fed diets with fish oil, soybean oil, palm oil, flaxseed oil and rapeseed oil as fat sources, respectively. After 10 weeks of feeding, the growth performance indexes such as weight gain rate, specific growth rate and feed coefficient of eels were measured. The results showed that the final weight, weight gain rate and specific growth rate of the diet con-taining fish oil and soybean oil were significantly higher than those of the diet containing palm oil, flaxseed oil and rapeseed oil groups(P<0.05).The feed coefficient of diet containing fish oil and soybean oil was significantly low-er than that of diet containing palm oil, flaxseed oil and rapeseed oil groups(P<0.05).Different fat source diets had no significant effects on visceral-body ratio and hepato-body ratio of eel(P>0.05).The results showed that the use of fish oil and soybean oil in the production of eel had a good effect on its growth performance, and soybean oil could be considered as a substitute for some fish oil in culture.
