Optimal order for loss-averse newsvendor with segmented wholesale price
This paper studied on the optimal order problem for the loss-averse newsvendors.Based on the economic phenomenon of"buying in bulk, getting a discount",it was assumed that the wholesale price of a commodity was divided into two segments according to the quan-tity ordered.Obviously, the bigger the order was,the lower the whole price was.Supposed the reference point was a convex combination of maximum and minimum profit. This paper proved that there was a unique optimal order quantity under maximum expected utility, and found that the order quantity of the loss-averse newsvendors was smaller than the loss-neutral newsvendors. This paper also presented the influence of the parameters on the optimal order quantity, and found that the optimal order quantity of retailer decreased with the increase of wholesale price and loss aversion degree, and it was bigger than that of classic retailers when the reference level was small and was smaller when the reference level was large.Numerical examples were provided to illustrate these findings.
