Research on the integration mechanisms, development paths, and practical effects of the full pork industry chain in China and the United States
In order to study the current development status of the entire pig industry chain in China, explore the future development paths and models, and promote the high-quality development of China's pig industry, this study adopted meso and micro perspectives to systematically review and summarize the development trends of the pig industry chains in China and the United States.Representative animal husbandry enterprises in the two countries were selected as cases to compare and analyze the integration mechanisms, development paths and models of the entire pig industry chain, and evaluate their practical effects, aiming to provide strategic recommendations for the transformation and upgrading of China's pig industry. The results showed that since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the concentration of China's pig industry had rapidly increased, especially after the African swine fever epidemic,as leading enterprises had accelerated their expansion and carried out full industry chain layout.Differences in industry concentration and consumption habits had led to the integration of the entire pig industry chain in the United States to be driven by downstream slaughtering enterprises expanding upstream, while in China,it was driven by upstream feed and breeding enterprises expanding downstream. The development of the China's entire pig industry chain was still in the exploratory stage, with problems such as unplanned integration, single integration method and incomplete layout. In view of this, the study suggested enriching vertical integration models to reduce market operational risks, enhancing the internal supply chain integration of the enterprise to improve vertical management efficiency, and avoiding hasty horizontal and vertical integrations by timely adjusting the layout strategies.
