Objective:To explore the effect of sputum drainage instrument combined with airway management on sputum viscosity, pulmonary function and blood gas index in elderly patients with pneumonia. Methods:A total of 80 elderly patients with pneumonia who were admitted to Leping People's Hospital from June 2022 to June 2023 were selected and divided into the intervention group(n=40)and the control group(n=40)according to the random number table. The control group was given airway management, and the intervention group was given sputum extractor combined with airway management.Sputum viscosity, pulmonary function, and blood gas indicators of the two groups were compared. Results:The sputum viscosity in the intervention group was better than that in the control group(P<0.05);After intervention,FEV1,FVC and PEF25 at 25%Vital capacity in the first second increased(P<0.05),and the intervention group was higher than the control group(P<0.05);After intervention, the arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide(PaCO2)decreased(P<0.05),while the arterial partial pressure of oxygen(PaO2)and oxygenation index(PaO2/FiO2)increased(P<0.05).The intervention group had lower PaCO2 compared to the control group(P<0.05),and higher PaO2 and PaO2/FiO2(P<0.05).Conclusion:The combination of sputum extractor and airway management in elderly patients with pneumonia can reduce sputum viscosity, improve lung function and improve blood gas indicators.
