Translating and validating the Perceived Ageism Questionnaire in Chinese communi-ty-dwelling older people
Objective To translate the Perceived Ageism Questionnaire(PAQ)into simplified Chinese, and to assess its reliability and validity in community-dwelling older people. Methods After obtaining authorization from the original author,cross-cultural adaptation of the questionnaire was carried out, following the Brislin's translation model, for which the following steps were in-cluded:translation,retro translation, integration, submission to expert judges, and pilot test. Then 540 community-dwelling adults aged ≥60 years were surveyed to test the reliability and validity. Results Exploratory factor analysis revealed two factors(with ei-genvalue>1)that explained 60.249%of the total variance.Confirmatory factor analysis showed excellent goodness of fit indices for the two-factor structure(x2/df=1.172,RMSEA=0.024,RMR=0.018,AGF1=0.970,CFI=0.998,IFI=0.998,TLI=0.995).The item-level content validity index(CVI)ranged from 0.833 to 1.000,and the S-CVI/universal agreement(S-CVI/UA)was 0.857.The Cronbach's alpha for the scale was 0.808 and the test-retest reliability was 0.821.Conclusion The Chinese version of the PAQ is valid and reliable to assess subjective ageism among older adults.
