The mediating effect of positive coping styles in the relationship between positive aspects and well-being among caregivers of glioma patients
Objective This study aims to investigate the status of positive aspects, positive coping styles, and well-being among caregivers of patients with glioma, and to explore the mediating effect of positive coping styles between positive as-pects and well-being.Methods A convenient sample of 100 caregivers of patients with glioma was selected and assessed be-tween Jan.2021 and Feb.2022.They were investigated by general information questionnaire,Index of Well-Being(IWB),the Chinese Positive Aspects of Caregiver(PAC),and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ).Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between positive coping styles, positive aspects, and well-being.The mediating effect of positive coping styles between positive aspects and well-being was tested by Model 4 in Process 3.5 and the Bootstrap method. Results Caregivers of patients with glioma had total scores of(7.07±2.21),(31.84±6.85),and(21.85±6.76)on the IWB,Chinese PAC,and SCSQ,respectively.Well-being among caregivers positively correlated with positive aspects(r=0.322,P<0.01)and positive coping style(r=0.342,P<0.01);positive coping style was positively associated with positive aspects(r=0.322,P<0.01).The indirect effect of positive aspects on well-being through positive coping style was 0.203,accounting for 39%of the total effect. Conclusion Caregivers of patients with glioma exhibit a moderate level of well-being,and positive coping styles play a partial mediating role between positive aspects and well-being.
