Effects of high-protein diet on body size and body composition of overweight/obese medical staff
Objective To examine the effects of high-protein diet on overweight/obese medical staff's body size and body composition. Methods A total of 83 overweight/obese medical staff recruited from the nutrition clinic of the hospital from June to December 2022 were selected as the research subjects and randomly divided into two groups. The control group(n=39)received routine energy-limited dietary intervention, and the experimental group(n=44)received high-protein dietary in-tervention for 8 weeks. The changes of body size and body composition before and after intervention were compared between the two groups. Results The difference of body weight(-7.40±11.20)kg,body mass index(-2.39±3.14)kg/m2,waist circumference(-5.61±8.13)cm,body fat mass(-4.65±5.01)kg,body fat percentage(-3.13±4.17)%and visceral fat area(-20.84±24.41)cm2 of the experimental group before and after intervention were measured. The differ-ence of body weight(-1.52±4.16)kg,body mass index(-0.49±1.54)kg/m2,waist circumference(-1.23±4.39)cm,body fat mass(-0.57±2.19)kg,body fat percentage(-0.21±2.50)%and visceral fat area(-1.72±6.21)cm2 of the control group were measured. The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion High-protein diet is more beneficial for improving body size and optimizing body composition in overweight/obese medical staff compared to con-ventional energy-limited diet.
