The mediating effect of the sense of security between disease uncertainty and parenting stress in mothers of preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia
Objective To investigate the mediating effect of the sense of security between disease uncertainty and paren-ting stress in mothers of preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, providing a reference for alleviating their paren-ting stress. Methods A total of 241 mothers of preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia admitted to the Children's Hospital,Zhejiang University School of Medicine, from October 2021 to April 2022 were selected by convenience sampling. The general information questionnaire, the Parent's Perception Uncertainty in Illness Scale, the Security Questionnaire, and the Parenting Stress Index-Short From were used for investigation.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the rela-tionships among disease uncertainty, sense of security, and parenting stress. The Bootstrap method was used to examine the mediating role of sense of security between disease uncertainty and parenting stress. Results The scores of parenting stress, disease uncertainty, and sense of security in mothers of preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia were(100.37±41.40),(77.12±29.73),and(50.56±11.19),respectively.Parenting stress was positively correlated with disease uncertainty(r=0.753,P<0.001)and negatively correlated with sense of security(r=-0.660,P<0.001).Sense of security media-ted the relationship between disease uncertainty and parenting stress, accounting for 22.26%of the total effect. Conclusion The sense of security partially mediates the relationship between disease uncertainty and parenting stress in mothers of preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
