Influences on the general well-being of community-dwelling old adults:a social ecology approach
Objective To explore the determinants of general well-being among community-dwelling old adults in China through the lens of social ecology theory,prividing a reference for promoting active.Methods Employing a convenience sampling method,we surveyed 237 community-dwelling old adults across four cities in Zhejiang Province from February to March 2022.Data were collected using the general information questionnaire,General Well-Being Schedule Scale,Activities of Daily Living Scale(ADL),Patient Health Questionnaire-9,Family APGAR Index,Lubben Social Network Scale.Variables were categorized according to the four dimensions of the social ecology model.Stratified regression and path analyses were conducted to identify determinants of general well-being.Results The community-dwelling old adults had an average overall well-being score of(87.07±11.76).Chronic disease type,health self-assessment,ADL,depression levels,residential ar-rangement,family support,and social network were significant predictors of general well-being(P<0.05).The path analy-sis results revealed that ADL,family support and social network exerted both direct and indirect influences on overall well-being.Additionally,depression was identified as a direct determinant of general well-being.Conclusion The community old adults exhibit a relative high level of general well-being,influenced by multifaceted factors across physiological,psychologi-cal,familial,and societal domains.Targeted interventions in these areas could enhance the general well-being of old adults sense.
