SDN Southbound Interface Lightweight Methods for Tactical Communication
With the wide application of unmanned equipment and intelligent technology in modern warfare, the requirements for the bandwidth, service quality, and real-time performance and other aspects of battlefield communication networks are getting higher and higher.Introducing the technical ideas of software defined networks into tactical communication networks can bring significant improvements to the operation and maintenance management and resource scheduling, etc.of tactical networks. However, due to the huge differences between the tactical communication environment and the civilian communication environment in terms of bandwidth, delay and mobility, the software defined network originally designed for civilian scenarios cannot be directly applied to the tactical communication scenario unless the problems such as large control overhead of its southbound interface and others are solved. Therefore, based on the standard OpenFlow specification,a lightweight design of the southbound interface is proposed from the aspects of reliable UDP bearer, message aggregation mechanism, and southbound interaction mode optimization, and the control overhead of the southbound interface can be effectively reduced. The feasibility of the proposed scheme is verified by simulation, and the communication requirements in tactical scenarios can be met.
