Whole genome sequencing and structural characterization of mitochondria of Jiaxian County red cattle
Red cattle of Jiaxian County is one of the eight excellent yellow cattle breeds in China, and it is an excellent local breed that can be used for both serving and meat. The whole mitochondrial genome of Jiaxian red cattle was sequenced by high-throughput sequencing technology, and its characteristics were analyzed. The results showed that the whole mitochondrial genome of Jiaxian red cattle was 16 339 bp in length, and 37 genes(including 13 protein coding genes,22 tRNAs,and 2 rRNAs)and a control region(D-loop)were annotated. There were no intron regions, but there were overlapping genes. The A+T content was 60.6%,and there was obvious AT bias. There are 13 gene spacer regions in the genome sequence, the longest of which is 16 bp,loca-ted between NADH5 and NADH6.At the same time, there are four overlapping genes, the longest of which is 33 bp,located between tRNA-Gln and tRNA-Met.Nine of these genes are located in the light chain and 26 genes are located in the heavy chain. The analysis of mitochondrial genome sequence of Jiaxian red cattle is helpful to enrich its mitochondrial genome resources, and provides an important foundation for germplasm resources pro-tection and genetic breeding of Jiaxian red cattle.
