In the late Qing Dynasty,with the impacts of the political criticism,the concept of political discus-sion in newspapers and periodicals also showed distinct localized characteristics,which was significantly different from the modern Western concept of views of politics.The ideological resources related to traditional Chinese po-litical criticism are used to elaborate on political issues in newspapers and periodicals to strengthen the rationality and necessity of running newspapers for political discussion.Modern political discussion activities in newspapers and periodicals are compared to traditional political criticism.From this perspective,political commentary in news-papers and periodicals is no longer highlighted as a modern democratic practice to supervise politics;instead it is de-scribed as a communication behavior that conforms to the Chinese cultural context and political practice.As a re-sult,the concepts of speech in modern newspapers and periodicals has been altered from its original nature,thus hin-dering the Chinese people's accurate understanding of modern newspaper and periodical facilities and the internal mechanism of their operation.
