Aesthetics master Feng Zikai integrated children's lives and aesthetic characteristics,and created nearly 400 illustrations for the Republic of China's Mandarin textbook Enlightened Mandarin Textbook.The illus-trations presented narrative characteristics in terms of layout,aesthetics,structure,intention,and artistic conception:illustration representations conformed to children's perceptions;painting techniques highlighted the dynamic sense of beauty;name subjects depicted children's lives;dynamic plots released textual concepts;and graphic narratives resounded with the"sound outside the picture".Looking back at The illustrations in the Enlightened Mandarin Text-book can provide inspiration for the construction of illustrations in the current unified primary school Chinese lan-guage textbooks:grasping the cognitive laws of children and optimizing the spatial layout of illustrations;based on children's life experiences,depicting the illustrations that are authentic and interesting;emphasizing illustration rep-resentation design and expanding children's aesthetic context;reasonably coordinating the relationship between il-lustrations and texts,activating children's imagination space.
