Humanistic geography focuses on the relationship between man and land,emphasizing"sense of place"and"local identity".Shen Congwen made up his mind to live in the modern city,but brought him a"dark valley"style with"no sense of being in the place".He escaped the squeeze and claustrophobia of the city through literary creation,and the"west Hunan world"in his works re-explores the complex and close"authentic"relation-ship between individuals and places.The"internal"identity and"external"prejudice against"bandit west Hunan area"prompted him to reconstruct the local area by literary means.Thus Border Town,a"local utopia"with cul-tural metaphor came into being.Through the creation of Shen Congwen,the image of west Hunan reached the eter-nal"literary west Hunan"in the history of modern literature from the frontier land.
