Study on the strength properties and mechanism of action of fiber reinforced expansive soils
In order to explore the improvement effect of polypropylene fiber on weak expansive soil in Nanyang area, polypropylene fibers with lengths of 3,6 and 9 mm were added to the expansive soil according to the mass ratios of 0%,0.1%,0.2%,0.3%,0.4%and 0.5%,respectively.The influence mechanism of polypropylene fiber on the strength of expansive soil was analyzed. The results show that the interfacial force between soil particles and fiber contact surface is generated by different amounts of polypropylene fiber through inlaying, wrapping and spatial network structure, and the addition of polypropylene fiber to the expansive soil can increase the friction between the soil particles to restrict the deformation of the soil, thereby significantly improving the unconfined compressive strength and shear strength of the expansive soil, and the fiber content with the best improvement effect on the expansive soil is 0.3%under the condition of consistent fiber length. When the fiber content is identical, the longer the fiber length is,the more significant the improvement effect will be.
