Establishment of Reference Interval for Thyroid Function Detection Indicators in Children Aged 8 Days to 17 Years Old in Southern Fujian,China
Objective To establish the reference range of thyroid function detection indicators in healthy children aged 8 days to 17 years old in southern Fujian,China,so as to provide reference for early prevention, diagnosis and treat-ment of thyroid diseases in children. Methods A total of 1672 healthy children aged from 8 days to 17 years old who were treated in the author's hospital from January 2019 to March 2023 were selected as the study subjects. The chidren were divided into 5 groups according to different age:8 days<age ≤1 month group(n=267);1 month<age ≤ 1 years old group(n=292);1 years old<age ≤5 years old group(n=354);5 years old<age ≤9 years old group(n=323);9 years<age ≤17 years old group(n=436).The reference interval of serum free triiodothyronine(FT3),serum free thy-roxine(FT4)and serum thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)in children of different age groups were grouped, and the reference interval of FT3,FT4 and TSH levels of children in each age bracket were analyzed. The differences of FT3,FT4 and TSH levels between different genders among different age groups were compared. Results In this study, the FT3 se-rum concentration of children in reference interval of 8 days<age ≤1 month group was 1.95-7.66 pmol/L,the FT3 serum concentration of children in reference interval of 1 year<age ≤5 years old group was 3.02-8.67 pmol/L and the FT3 serum concentration of children in reference interval of 5 years<age ≤17 years old group was 3.86-9.49 pmol/L;the FT4 serum concentration of children in reference interval of 8 days<age ≤1 month group was 9.33-13.46 pmol/L,and that of children in reference interval of 1 year<age≤17 years group was 9.32-16.52 pmol/L;the reference interval of TSH was 0.70-6.16 mIU/L in 8 days<age≤5 years group and 0.40-5.80 mIU/L in the 5 days<age ≤17 years group. In this study, the FT3,FT4 and TSH levels of children in different ages and genders were compared, which found that the FT4 level of boys in the 8 days<age ≤1 month group was higher than that of girls, and the difference of the two was statistically significant(P<0.05),there were no significant differences in FT3,FT4 and TSH levels aomng children in other different age and different gender groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The reference in-terval of thyroid function detection indexes in healthy children aged 8 days to 17 years old in southern Fujian,China is es-tablished.Compared with the reference interval of the kit,the reference interval of thyroid function test for children of all ages determined in this study is more specific, which can help clinical doctors to better grasp the condition, and provide help for clinical prevention, diagnosis and treatment of children's thyroid diseases.
