Meta Analysis of the Efficacy of Percutaneous Balloon Compression and Percutaneous Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation in the Treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous balloon compression(PBC)and percutaneous radio-frequency thermocoagulation(PRT)in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia(TN).Methods Chinese and English data-bases such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang data, internet,PubMed,EMbase and Cochrane Library were retrieved by computer from January 1,2011 to October 31,2023.The efficacy and complications of PBC and PRT in the treatment of TN were compared, and the main outcome of the study was analyzed by Review Manager 5.4 software. Results A total of 18 articles were included in this study, including 8 randomized controlled trial(RCT)and 10 case con-trolled studies,a total of 3013 patients with TN were involved in Ⅱ and Ⅲ branches of the trigeminal nerve. There was no significant difference in the cure rate(OR=0.74,95%CI:0.53-1.02,P=0.07),effective rate(OR=0.94,95%CI:0.72-1.22,P=0.62)and recurrence rate(OR=0.68,95%CI:0.40-1.15,P=0.15)PRT and PBC,however, the incidence rates of two common postoperative complications, facial hypoesthesia and masseter muscle weakness, were low-er in PRT than in PBC(OR=2.84,95%CI:1.32-6.09,P<0.01;OR=2.86,95%CI:1.55-5.25,P<0.01).Conclusion PRT has advantages in the efficacy of TN,and the incidence of major complications is lower, which is one of the important ways to treat TN clinically.
