Changes in Serum Free Fatty Acids,Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid,Saturated Fatty Acid in Patients with Diabetes Mel-litus Type 2 and Their Correlation with Diabetic Nephropathy
Objective To explore the changes in serum free fatty acid(FFA),omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid(ω-3PUFA),saturated fatty acid in the serum of patients with diabetes mellitus type 2(T2DM)and their correlation with the occurrence of diabetic kidney disease(DKD).Methods Eighty-four patients with DKD in author's hospital from Jan-uary 2023 to December 2023 were randomly selected and included into the DKD group,60 patients with simple T2DM were enrolled in the T2DM group, and another 60 healthy subjects undergoing physical examination were selected as the control group. The levels of FFA,ω-3PUFA,and saturated fatty acid were compared among the 3 groups, renal function indicators, including serum uric acid(UA),serum creatinine(Cr),glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)and urine protein levels were also measured and compared among the 3 groups.Pearson correlation analysis was employed to examine the relationship between FFA,ω-3 PUFA,and saturated fatty acid levels and renal function indicators, such as UA,Cr,eG-FR,and urine protein concentrations in DKD patients.According to the eGFR level, patients with DKD were divided into the good prognosis group(n=49)and the poor prognosis group(n=35),the levels of serum FFA,ω-3PUFA,saturated fatty acid were compared between the two groups. Results Compared with the control group, patients in the DKD group and T2DM group had significantly higher levels of FFA,saturated fatty acids,UA,Cr,and urinary protein, while ω-3 PUFA and eGFR levels were significantly lower(all P<0.05);compared with the T2DM group, patients in the DKD group had significantly higher levels of FFA,saturated fatty acids,UA,Cr,and urinary protein, while ω-3 PUFA and eGFR levels were significantly lower(all P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that FFA and saturated fatty acid levels were positively correlated with UA,Cr,and urinary protein levels, and negatively corre-lated with eGFR level(P<0.05);conversely,ω-3 PUFA levels were negatively correlated with UA,Cr,and urina-ry protein levels, and positively correlated with eGFR level(P<0.05).DKD patients in poor prognosis group had higher levels of FFA and saturated fatty acids than those in the good prognosis group, but lower levels of ω-3 PUFA(all P<0.05).Conclusion In patients with T2DM,the levels of serum FFA and saturated fatty acids are elevated, and both are positively correlated with the occurrence of DKD,the level of ω-3 PUFA decreases, showing a negative correlation with the occurrence of DKD,and can reflect the prognosis of DKD to some extent.
