Qualitative Study on Coping Strategies of Postoperative Rehabilitation and Exercise Barriers in Elderly Patients with Diabetes Mellitus Combined with Arthroplasty
Objective To explore the causes and coping strategies of postoperative rehabilitation and exercise barri-ers in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus combined with arthroplasty,and to provide a reference basis for the develop-ment and implementation of rehabilitation period programmes.Methods A total of 14 elderly patients with diabetes mel-litus combined with total hip arthroplasty/total knee arthroplasty from June to December 2023 were selected by purposive sampling method for semi-structured interviews,and the interview datas were analyzed,summarised and themes distilled according to the method of analogical analysis.Results Themes affecting postoperative rehabilitation and exercise barri-ers in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus combined with arthroplasty include psychological pressure gradually increas-ing,increased pain,diabetes-specific barriers,geriatric debility,and social support effects of dissonance;the main coping strategies include active education and psychological counselling on rehabilitation and exercise,rehabilitation punch card supervision,multimodal analgesic programme,precise and intensive nutritional support,and multidisciplinary rehabilita-tion cooperation.Conclusion For elderly patient with diabetes mellitus combined arthroplasty,it is necessary to actively intervene the fragile psychology and scientifically and reasonably carry out multimodal analgesia during rehabilitation,strengthen nutritional support and improve the debilitation state,conduct multidisciplinary cooperation to strengthen reha-bilitation,establish an information rehabilitation follow-up supervision system in the future,and advocate social support,so as to improve postoperative complications and reduce the pain,promote rapid recovery of patients after surgery.
