A Comparative Analysis of the Two English Versions of Xi Jinping's Speech at the Ceremony Marking the Centenary of the Communist Party of China
Taking the two English versions of Xi Jinping's Speech at the Ceremony Marking the Centenary of the Communist Party of China as the study object,and using a comparative analysis of methodology,this paper con-ducts a statistical analysis on the types of the revised parts in the latest Englishversion and their corresponding numbers.And then it makes a comparative analysis and deep reflection on typical cases based on the"three con-sciousnesses"proposed by Huang Youyi for political publicity translation,namely language consciousness,politi-cal consciousness,and international consciousness.The result shows that certain revisions are made in considera-tion of different target readers,but most of them are aimed at correcting the understanding deviations and unrea-sonable expressions in the first English version.Meanwhile,the"three consciousnesses"are better embodied in the latest English version.However,the"three consciousnesses"mentioned above need to be further enhanced.Hence,it is necessary to enhance translators'ability of checking and verifying to boost the precision of political concept translation,adopt differentiating translation strategies to achieve effective communication,and optimize the translation mode of Chinese-Foreign collaboration to improve readability.
