A Study on the Chinese People's Image in the English Version of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China from the Perspective of the Attitude System
The overseas dissemination of the Chinese people's image plays a significant role in the construction of China's image as a major country.Based on the framework of the Attitude System, descriptive statistical anal-ysis and thematic analysis were conducted on the attitudinal resources in the four volumes of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China and their English translations with the aid of the UAM Corpus Tool.It was found that both the original texts and the translations primarily evaluate and shape the image of the Chinese people through posi-tive judgment resources, specifically reflected in four aspects:highly creative,peace-loving,industrious and brave and constant self-improving.Throughout the translation process, the translators adhered to accuracy as the prima-ry principle, fully considering the differences between Chinese and English, and flexibly employed a variety of translation strategies and methods such as multiple translations for a single expression, sentence structure adjust-ment,semantic fusion, etc.to transform attitude resources,so as to ensure the acceptance effect of the translation and facilitate the international readers to better understand and appreciate the positive image of the Chinese peo-ple.This paper explores the current state of the English translation of the Chinese people's image in Chinese po-litical texts through a detailed analysis of the translation examples, with the aim of providing a valuable reference for the practice and research of overseas-targeted publicity translation.
