China-centered Approach:Breaking and Building in a Research Method of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature
In the 1980s,American scholar Paul Cowen put forward the"China-centered approach",and tried to study important issues incourse of Chinese modernization from the historical context by using a"China-centered"method.This view has provided a new research method for the study of modern and contemporary Chinese litera-ture since the new era.However,when probed into the inner structure,it fails to exclude its innate western re-search position and shows the limitation of its vision in the discussion in breaking through the three modes of"im-pact-response","tradition and modern"and"imperialism"in the"western-centered approach".Therefore,the"China-centered approach"should be viewed more as a methodology in progress than as a conclusion
