The Application of Traditional Chinese Medicine Residues in Wastewater Treatment and Soil Remediation
With the popularity of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and the continuous development of the pharmaceutical industry,a large amount of TCM residues are produced in China every year.TCM residues are mainly made up of medicinal plant materials intended for human utilization. The traditional methods of disposal of TCM residues include incineration, stacking, and burial. However, these methods not only cause a great waste of TCM residues affect the ecological environment, but also. Therefore, the effective treatment of TCM residues is an urgent problem to solve for pharmaceutical companies in China. In recent years, the utilization of TCM residues in wastewater treatment and soil remediation has aroused widespread concern. In this paper, the potential of TCM residues in terms of removal of heavy metals, antibiotics, methylene blue and other ions in wastewater,as well as remediation of heavy metals contaminated soils were summarized, which was aimed at providing an overview of the current progress on the sustainable utilization of TCM residues and discussing the existing problems and future development.
